Make Animalshaped Washcloths

Give an old washcloh new life by turning it into an animal.

Whether you're looking to create a child's gift or simply need a way to make bath time more exciting for youngsters at home, making your own animal out of a washcloth is one way to do it. This simple craft requires little more than two washcloths and a needle and thread. When it's finished, you'll have made a cute animal-shaped washcloth that is both adorable and functional in the bath or shower.

Instructions

1. Sketch an outline of an animal that you want to turn into a washcloth. Choose a creature that doesn't require too many details to identify. The simple shape of a whale's body and tail fin is easy to recognize, as well as a lion's bushy mane and body. Snakes, rabbits, elephants and octopus are a few other creatures that can be identified by their silhouettes.

2. Cut out the animal sketch in the size you want the washcloth creature to be.

3. Stack two washcloths together, with both laying flat on one another. Use washcloths in a color that will represent your animal, such as blue for a whale or green for a snake. Pin them together in the center to hold them in place.

4. Place the animal cutout on the washcloths and trace its outline with a fabric marker or chalk. Cut out the washcloths along the traced line.

5. Sew the two pieces of the animal-shaped washcloths together. Do this by hand or with a sewing machine. Leave about 2 inches of the washcloths open. Remove the pin.

6. Turn the animal inside-out so that the seam is on the inside. Stuff the washcloth creation with fiberfill. Sew the remaining opening closed.

7. Draw a face on the animal using a permanent marker.
