Create a life-like beach scene with sand.
If you're looking to add some depth to an art project, or you want to help your children recreate a trip to the beach, consider gluing sand onto the paper you are using for your artwork. Gluing sand onto paper can turn an ordinary picture into a textured work of art and can allow artists to experiment with mediums other than the typical paint, markers or crayons. Gluing sand onto paper for an art project is a pretty simple task that even the youngest artists can do, with supervision.
Instructions
1. Lay a piece of paper on a flat surface. If you plan on adding other images to your artwork, use paint, markers or crayons to draw an image on the paper.
2. Pour craft glue into a small bowl with craft glue. Fill the bowl with only as much craft glue as you think you will need. It's easier to add more glue to the bowl as you're working on your project than it is to place unneeded glue back into the glue container.
3. Use a paintbrush to spread the glue onto the paper. Dip the paintbrush into the glue and spread it along the pieces of the paper where you wish to add sand. Draw a picture with the glue, write something or spread it out over the entire piece of paper; how you add the glue to the paper depends on how you want to use the sand in your picture.
4. Sprinkle sand onto the glue. Use your thumb, forefinger and middle finger to pinch the sand and sprinkle it over the top of the glue. Sprinkle as much sand as you'd like onto the glue and use as many colors of sand as you'd like.
5. Shake off the excess sand. Pick up the paper, hold it over a bowl or a trashcan and shake it. The excess sand will fall off the paper, but the sand that stuck to the glue will remain on the paper.
