Hang Up Streamers As Decoration For A Kid'S Birthday

Buy crepe paper streamers, prerolled, at craft stores or party supply shops.

Crepe paper streamers are an inexpensive way to decorate your home or party space for a kid's birthday party. Determine a color scheme for your streamers based on the party theme, such as green and yellow for a jungle theme or pink and purple for a princess theme. Purchase two to four different colors of crepe paper streamers for an ample amount of color. Look for printed streamers with images related to your birthday theme, such as skulls and crossbones for a pirate party or cartoon characters according to the theme of the party. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Identify places to hang the streamers that have surrounding walls or a low ceiling structure to attach the streamers. Consider hanging streamers above the cake and food table, gift area and entire party space.

2. Have someone assist you as you in unrolling one streamer to 2 feet longer than the length of the space where you are going to hang it. Hold the streamer and instruct your assistant to twist the other end of the streamer until the streamer is twisted in the desired fullness of the twist. Alternatively, create a two-tone streamer by holding two different colors of streamers together and twisting them as one streamer.

3. Keep your hands on the streamer so the twist does not come out. Tape one end of the streamer to one side of your space on the ceiling or structure using double-sided tape. Pull the streamer across the length of the space and tape the other end to the ceiling or structure. Use a step ladder, if necessary, to reach the ceiling or space to hang the streamer.

4. Create an arch in the streamer by identifying the center of the twisted hanging streamer. Add a piece of tape to attach the streamer to the structure above it. Form more than one arch by dividing the streamer into thirds, if desired.

5. Add additional twisting streamers across the first attached streamer in a perpendicular fashion. Attach the center point to the first streamer. Continue adding crossing layers until you reach the desired amount of streamers.

6. Cover a smaller area or a wall with streamers by cutting 1-foot lengths of various colors of streamers. Use double-sided tape to attach one end of each streamer to the ceiling or wall. Leave the streamers dangling or attach the dangling ends using tape so you have a 6-inch wide loop. Overlap the loops for a weave effect.

7. Cut 12 streamers to 3 feet in length each. Line these up side-by-side in the doorway that is the entrance to the party and secure one end of the streamers to the top of the door frame using double-sided tape. Add additional streamers to other doorways, as desired.

8. Cut 12 to 48 1-foot-long streamers. Tape one end of the streamers, spaced 2 inches apart, around the perimeter of any tables you are using for the party, such as the gift table or food table, for a fringed look.

9. Wrap streamers around your mailbox pole, trees and any other pole-type structure outdoors. Attach the streamers to help guests identify the party location using double-sided tape.
