Install Correction Tape For A Typewriter

Correction tape will allow you to fix typing mistakes.

Editing is not as simple on a typewriter as on a computer. Since a typewriter types directly onto a piece of paper, it cannot delete. Instead, the typewriter uses correction tape, which is similar to the kind used to correct handwritten documents. The tape comes on a spool that you must change when it runs out. Typewriter tape spools are designed to work with specific brands. So you must install the correct tape for your machine.

Instructions

1. Press the lever on the side of the print carriage, or use the backspace or space keys to move the carriage to the center.

2. Open the top cover of the typewriter. Grasp both ends of the ink ribbon cassette, and gently pull it out of the machine. Set it out of the way.

3. Install the correction tape spools; one side will be a nearly empty spool and the other a nearly full spool of tape. With the sticky side of the tape facing the roller, slip the tape behind the tape guide. Slide the nearly empty spool onto the left pin below the where the ink ribbon cassette was. Then slide the nearly full spool onto the right pin.

4. Turn the nearly empty spool until the tape becomes taut in the middle.

5. Reassemble the typewriter. Replace the ink ribbon cassette you removed in step 2. Close the cover of the machine.
