Honolulu is Hawaii's state capitol.
Honolulu is the heart of the Hawaiian island Oahu. The capitol city of Hawaii, Honolulu offers tourists many options. The many attractions include great restaurants, beaches, historic sites and museums. It can be hard to know which popular places to visit, but you can get travel brochures and choose based upon your interests.
Instructions
1. Consult with a travel planner to learn about the islands. Contact a travel agent to inquire about package specials that include hotel, rental car, tour group events and discounts to particular sites of interest.
2. Visit the official Hawaii Tourism website. You'll find an enormous amount of information and can weed through the possibilities according to subject, location, suitability for children or adults, and pricing.
3. View a Hawaii travel book from a bookstore or library. Start with those places closest to your interests. If, for example, you appreciate culture and history, look up information about the Bishop Museum and Iolani Palace -- the only official state residence of royalty in the U.S. Near the Iolani Palace is the Mission Houses Museum, which interprets the "missionary period" of 1820 to 1863. You'll also find other historic places such as the Pearl Harbor memorials listed in most guide books.
4. Check information provided by individual hotels. They often offer tour packages for various outings, such as finding hidden beaches, snorkeling Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve, horseback riding, diving tours and more.
5. Look for special tour information centered on special annual events, such as Honolulu's annual Merrie Monarch Festival.
