Make An Exploding Chocolate Volcano

Make an erupting chocolate volcano as the centerpiece for your party.

Make an erupting and exploding chocolate volcano as the centerpiece for your next party or dinner feast. The sight of actual chocolate oozing out of a "volcano" made from chocolate cake is sure to delight your guests, young or old. Make sure to use bundt cake so that you have a ready made hole for the volcano cone. Use a small amount of dry ice when you start presenting your chocolate volcano, since a large amount will cause a lot of fumes. Present the chocolate volcano once dinner is over so that all guests have their attention on the chocolate eruption. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

1. Combine marshmallow fluff and hot water to make the fluff icing.

2. Melt chocolate and butter to make the chocolate glaze. Set aside.

3. Place the three chocolate cake layers on top of each other, using fluff icing as glue to stack them properly. Make sure not to allow the white fluff icing to peek through the layers so that the outside of the cake remains brown.

4. Use a sharp knife to trim the stacked cake to resemble a volcano cone. Remove extra cake from the center of the stack to fit the glass in the center. Place the glass so it fits the center of the cake. Spread fluff icing around the glass so that the erupting chocolate cannot flow back into the cake.

5. Spread chocolate glaze on the sides and center of the cake. Spread crushed cookies on the edge of the cake to resemble dirt and rocks.

6. Spread remaining fluff icing on the top and sides of the volcano cake, leaving swirls to resemble flowing magma. Use a brulee torch to brown the tops of the fluff icing.

7. Initiate the eruption of the chocolate volcano by placing 2 cubes of dry ice in the glass chamber located in the center. Do this 2 minutes prior to presenting the cake.

8. Pour fluff icing on the dry ice, adding 1 tbsp. of hot water if the icing has cooled down. This will cause the magma to erupt and flow over the chocolate volcano, along with fumes of dry ice.
