Avon salespeople distribute more than $8 billion of beauty, skin-care and fragrance products every year. Avon representatives sell directly to clients at in-home parties, where a family member, friend or longtime customer hosts the event. 1. Sign up to become an Avon representative. Avon is always welcoming new representatives, and you can begin your journey as an Avon rep by registering on its website. Provide basic contact information, then someone from Avon will contact you about starting your own Avon business. You can then participate in training sessions and sales meetings in your area that will introduce you to the Avon product line. Here, you can network with other representatives and collect ideas for your Avon parties.


2. Meet with the party host. Cater your Avon party to meet the interests and needs of the party guests. Ask the host about what products she uses, what products her guests are interested in and what types of demonstrations they would enjoy. For example, a group of 40-somethings might be particularly interested in Avon's anti-aging skin-care line, so you can focus your party on those products rather than makeup or fragrances.


3. Check your sample inventory. One benefit of selling at a home party is that party guests can sample your products before buying. If you're confident in your Avon product, this can translate into increased sales at the party. Have enough samples of products on hand so that each guests can have one. Talk to the party host about the number of guests she expects and bring enough samples for every guest.


4. Design an attractive presentation. Display your products in a prominent location, like your host's dining room table. Use a linen in Avon's signature pink shade to cover the table and use boxes to create displays of varying heights. Include brochures or catalogs that feature the products as well. The more information you can provide guests about the Avon products, the more likely they are to buy.


5. Play a game. Connect with your potential customers by hosting an icebreaker at the beginning of the party. You can quiz guests about Avon's product line, and the guest with the most correct answers can win a free product. This game allows guests to loosen up and get comfortable while you educate them about the benefits of Avon products.


6. Share your experiences. As an Avon representative, you should trust the products enough to use them. If you're featuring an eyeshadow or foundation that you use regularly, tell the guests about it. Explain the benefits of the product and let them know that you use it. Guests will be more likely to purchase a product if you can validate its worth.


7. Provide one-on-one consultations. Ask your host to set up a side room where you can meet with the guests individually. Talk to them about their skin type and suggest products that will work for them. This personalized consultation is an effective way to convince your party guests that they are selecting beauty products that will work for them.
