Have An Awesome House Party

For an awesome house party, your guests will expect to mingle, dance and have something to eat and drink. This energy-filled gathering may begin small but end up with a large number of people you may or may not know. Whether you're hosting a house party for the fun of it or for a good cause like a fundraiser, make it the talk of the town by organizing and preparing in advance. Instructions


1. Walk through your home and plan how you will rearrange the furniture to accommodate a large number of guests. Decide where the dance floor will be.


2. Make a guest list. Word of mouth will do some of the work but you should give your most-desirable guests a cool invitation to ensure that they will come.


3. Create fliers to distribute for higher attendance. Distribute the fliers in places that will attract the people you want at your party. For example, if you want college kids to attend the party, place a flier on a college bulletin board. Skip this step if the size of the crowd is a concern for you, or you would rather not have strangers in your home.


4. Hire a disc jockey to play music at your house party. Give the disc jockey an idea of the music you want played.


5. Recruit a nondrinking friend to be a bouncer at your party. He should be large and intimidating but not quick-tempered. It may be a good idea to hire a security person if there's any chance the party could get rowdy.


6. Talk to your neighbors before the party. Tell them what you have planned, and, if you like, invite them. You may want to bring a bottle of wine or some other goodie as a pre-party peace offering.


7. Put away the dishes and anything else you do not want broken. Put everything valuable in a safe or lock box.


8. Post signs on doors of rooms that are off limits.


9. Hire a bartender. Support the bartender's decisions to cut off tipsy people. Have a bowl on the counter for car keys to go.


10. Call taxi cabs for people who have too much to drink or arrange for them to sleep it off at your house.


11. Regularly set out canapes and appetizers. You may want to hire a caterer to do this for you so you can enjoy mingling during your party.


12. Walk through the party every hour and pick up empty cans and trash. This will make it easier to clean up at the end of the night.
