Make a boring stool fit in with your decor using a circular skirt.
A stool is both practical and decorative in the home. If you don't need a stool to grab items off high shelves or adjust curtains, then just use it as more of a decorative piece for your room. Incorporate it into your overall room decor by covering the seat with an attractive circular skirt.
Instructions
1. Review your current decor to decide on the right color or design of fabric for the stool skirt. Keep color theory in mind as you make these choices. For instance, if the room is mostly red, choose its color complement (a shade of green) for the stool skirt.
2. Measure the diameter of the stool from one end to the opposite side. When shopping, look for a circular skirt that has a diameter 50 percent more than the diameter of the stool. So, if your stool diameter is 20 inches, find a circle-shaped skirt sized at 30 inches in diameter or more. The more of the stool you want covered, the longer the diameter of the skirt you choose.
3. Place the skirt over your stool so that the center matches closely with the center of the seat. If you're particular about proportions, measure the length of the skirt from the seat to ends around all sides to ensure it's perfectly centered.
4. Ask a friend to hold down the top of the skirt of the stool. Wrap a coordinating ribbon around the stool - just under the seat. Tie the ribbon in a firm bow to keep the stool skirt in place.
5. Position your newly skirted stool so that it's in a location where it's out of the way, yet complements the decor. Place an attractive plant or vase on top for added flair.
