Instructions

Create Beach Decor for Cheap

1. Remove all old decor, clutter and non-essentials from the entire home or the room that will having a beach theme.

It is easiest to start with a bare bones space and add back items that belong. Place items in some free boxes from the grocery store or garbage bags. Boxes work the best because you can stack them, label them, and see inside of them easily when opened.

2. Decide on the colors that you prefer for your beach decor. For some people, they think of a palette of blues and tans, the ocean color and the sand color. For others, they think of blues and greens, just like the water. Tropical flowers, fish, or sunsets with vibrant yellows, greens, reds, oranges and purples remind others of the beach and tropics.

3. Decide if there will be an animal or bird as a theme for the beach decor.

Some examples of popular "beachy" choices include:

Sea turtles

Dolphins

Seahorses

Tropical fish

Mermaids

Crabs

Pelicans

Sea gulls

Starfish

Ocean fish

Sharks

4. Throw a white sheet or a piece of material in your chosen beach decor colors on the sofa. Tuck in around the cushions to secure it using a rolled magazine for stability.

Add some pillows in your beach colors, if available. Use some paint in beach colors to paint simple outlines of palm trees, sea horses or the beach animal that you selected on the pillows.

5. Purchase and place a rug in front of the entrance door on the inside of the home and in the living room in the new colors.

In discount stores, cheap rugs can be found for less than $10 for two.

6. Set a welcome mat outside the door that fits the beach colors and themes. These mats can be found for under $15 at various discount stores.

7. Clean out the large jars, fill them 1/4 of the way up with sand, and arrange a few shells on top. Fill other, smaller jars with just shells. Use these as table focal points or on shelves or the top of bookshelves or mantles.

8. Arrange colorful bottles on shelves or in windows to allow light to reflect through the colors.

If using clear bottles, fill them with colored sand in layers. If the bottles are dark or ugly, spray them with spray paint in colors to match the beach decor palette.

9. Find and purchase some cheap tropical glass or mug sets. Four cups can be found for under $10, even closer to $5, in discount stores during the late spring and summer season.

Look for other cheap beach decor items like dish towels to display in the kitchen area. Simple items can change the look and feel of a whole room.

10. Put some large art above the sofa or on a blank wall in the bedrooms.

A cheap art display can be made by hanging two colorful beach towels with animals or images matching your beach theme horizontally or hang three vertically.

Another method to create cheap beach art is to line up either a row of poster boards or create a large square with four of them. Then, using paints and brushes, create outlines of sea creatures or themes like a large, single palm tree on the poster board. Just create an outline with a thick brush in a matching color. This yields custom art that is understated, cheap and simple, yet matching your beach decor perfectly.
