Craft A Grass Skirt

Think of Hawaii when crafting a homemade grass skirt for fun.

Learn to hula in your own homemade grass skirt. This is a good craft to do with kids if you're having a luau party or Hawaiian themed lesson at school. If you're just bored on a rainy day at home, throw your own luau in the living room making homemade leis and grass skirts. It does not take long to make a grass skirt, but it may take longer to learn do the perfect hula.

Instructions

1. Measure your waist size with the tape measure, and add six inches to this number.

2. Cut two pieces of the brown wrapping paper that are the length of your waist plus the six inches, and place the sheets one on top of the other.

3. Make the waist of the skirt by using a stapler to staple the skirt together, on the shorter side of the brown paper. Leave about half an inch of room between the staples and the edge of the paper.

4. Cut a waistband for the skirt with another piece of brown paper. Make the waistband about 4 inches wide, and the same size around as your waist plus the added inches.

5. Glue the waist band to the skirt on the edge where you stapled it together.

6. Create the grass by using scissors to make fringe out of the brown paper, as high as you'd like it to go. For an added grass look, staple some green crepe streamers on to the skirt.

7. Add the Velcro to each end of the skirt and fasten it around your waist.
