Send your invitations by mail or via computer.
There was a time when a birthday dinner required a formal invitation, but in this day and age, a casual event calls for a casual invitation. The invitation that you create sets the tone for the party, so it's important not to be too formal with your invitations. Get the word out with a simple card, email or online invitation. Your guests will have all the necessary information and also know what to expect at the birthday dinner. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Decide what medium you want to use for the invitation. Since the party is informal, you're not obligated to send out paper invitations in the mail. For ease and efficiency, you can choose to send out invitations by email, or by using an invitation website or a social networking site. If your guests are not regular internet users, send the invitation out in paper form, either on a handwritten card or as a computer print-out.
2. Choose a theme or motif for your invitation. Both online and word processor computer programs usually come with some pre-loaded invitation themes that you can simply plug your information into. If you're sending handwritten invitations, buy some printed cards or stationary that are appropriate for the party.
3. Add the pertinent details about the party to the invitation. Include the date, time, address and your contact information so that guests can R.S.V.P. or ask questions. If you are hosting a potluck dinner, specify what kind of dish you would like each guest to bring. If the dinner is taking place in a restaurant, politely indicate whether the guests are to pay for their own dinners, or whether you will be picking up the check.
4. Create some creative wording to make the invitation unique. In addition to the practical details, add a few words about the guest of honor or a friendly greeting to set the mood for the party. Write a brief passage yourself or research a well-known quotation or poem to write on the invitation.
5. Address paper invitations and mail them, or send the invitations via email or the online computer program. Keep records of how many people R.S.V.P. so you will know how many to expect for dinner.
