Build A Bamboo Tiki Bar

A tiki bar uses a basic frame that makes the bar.

A bamboo tiki bars adds a funky touch to any party or outdoor event. The bar itself consists of plywood boards, attached together in a U shape with a counter added to the top. Bamboo panels, such as those used for wall coverings and fences, are the right size and shape for adding the tiki element to the outside of the table. Building a tiki bar is a project that even those with limited woodworking skills can complete in a weekend or less. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Create a U shape from pressure-treated plywood boards. The longest board, measuring 38 by 62 inches, is the front of the bar, with two boards measuring 38 by 36 inches as the sides. The finished bar will be 38 inches high, 36 inches wide and 62 inches long.

2. Apply wood glue to the edges of the boards and clamp. After the wood glue dries, remove the clamps. Sink a 2-inch wood screw through the edge of the wood. Each screw should pass through both pieces of plywood, securing the wood together. Place the screws every two inches apart on the edges of each board.

3. Coat the top edges of the bar with wood glue. Set a pressure-treated, 24-by-62-inch plywood board on top. Line up the edges with the top edges of the boards. Clamp the top to the sides with wood clamps and let dry overnight. Sink wood screws every two inches around the top of the board after removing clamps.

4. Slide a 38-by-36-inch board underneath the top plywood and between the two end boards to serve as the center support. Secure the board to the top plywood piece with 2-inch wood screws.

5. Measure the distance from the center plywood board to the side boards. Cut a piece of plywood into boards the same length as shelves for the tiki bar.

6. Push the shelf board into the tiki bar, setting it between the end board and the center board. Attach the board to each side piece with 2-inch wood screws. Repeat with the other shelf board, attaching it between the center piece and opposite end board.

7. Measure the front and sides of the tiki bar with a measuring tape. Cut three bamboo panels to the same size and shapes as the bar. Place the longest panel on the front of the tiki bar.

8. Attach the panel to the plywood with finishing nails. Hammer one nail every two inches around the sides, top and bottom of the panel. Repeat this step with a panel on each end.
