Create Birthday Party Favors

The birthday child gets all of the presents, of course, but why not add a special touch to the celebration by sending every little guest home with something special. Of course, store-bought favors are readily available to compliment nearly any party theme, but here is an idea for an all-purpose favor that should please any young party guest. Don’t forget to make one of these favors for the birthday child, as well; it might turn out to be your child’s favorite gift. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Use a damp cloth to wipe out the inside of the egg carton to make sure it is totally clean. Let it dry.

2. Turn the egg carton over and draw around the top to make a pattern for the bright colored card stock. Cut out the card stock so it will fit exactly on the top of the egg carton.

3. Use the card stock as a pattern to cut out a piece the same size from a clear plastic report cover. Set aside.

4. Decorate the card stock by printing the child’s name with bright markers in the center of the card stock. Use a different color for each letter in the child’s name.

5. Decorate the card stock by attaching stickers around the edges. Any kind of stickers will do, but if you can find ones that are either relative to the theme of the party or, alternately, pictures of candy or other treats, they would be particularly appropriate.

6. Add some glitter to the card stock. Allow the glue under the glitter time to dry.

7. Glue the decorated card stock to the top of the egg carton. Put a sheet of waxed paper on top of the egg carton and place a book on top of it to weigh it down. Leave overnight.

8. Open the egg carton; if there is printing on the inside of the lid, use markers and/or stickers to cover the words.

9. Fill the indentations in the egg carton with a variety of candies such as M&M’s, Skittles, mints, Tootsie Rolls, Whoppers, Red Hots, gumdrops and jelly beans.

10. Use the piece of clear plastic to cover the bottom half of the egg carton (so the candy won’t fall out when the carton is opened). Use transparent tape to secure the covering.

11. Close the egg carton and tie with a ribbon around the center of the carton.
