Buy Birthday Party Supplies

The right supplies can make any birthday party a special celebration.

A birthday party is traditionally a time for both celebration and reflection on one's life. Children love to receive presents to mark their passage from one milestone to the next. Adults may take this time to dance with abandon and think about how they plan to spend the rest of their lives. Holding a birthday party often requires the purchase of specific items designed to convey a festive air to guests. Well-chosen decorations can honor someone's special day and make any space seem welcoming at the same time. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Decide on a theme. A theme is an idea that one can base the party around. To find a theme think about the interests of the birthday party girl. A small child may love the show "Blue's Clues." An older child may have multiple areas of activity including dance, music and specific books or cartoon characters. Adults may have specific hobbies such as fishing, travel or pets that you can use as inspiration. A theme should ideally be cohesive. Use a single theme only, as the use of multiple themes may lead to clashing imagery and confuse guests.

2. Pick out a color scheme. A specific color scheme can help unify the space and make it easy to coordinate items. If possible carry out this theme in all the items you use. If you have chosen the color pink use pink streamers on the wall, pink balloons for games, pink plates and pink cutlery. Serve pink lemonade, strawberries and birthday cake with rose colored icing. Use a contrasting color to add detail and interest. Blue works well with shades of purple and yellow.

3. Buy the supplies at least a few days in advance. Make up a list of the items you already have and those that you still need. Wait until you have an idea of how many guests will be attending the party. This way you can decide if you want to buy the 24-pack of pink cups or if you'll need the larger size. Store all supplies in an easy-to-reach space. You should have all items on hand the day before the party starts so you can decorate in advance and concentrate on other details such as cooking party food and cleaning the house.

4. Purchase in bulk. If you are celebrating more than one birthday party in a short period of time you can plan ahead and buy items in a single shopping trip. This can save you money and time. Make sure that you have all the items you need for each party.
