Look Like Nancy Drew

Look Like Nancy Drew

One of the best-loved sleuths in literature is Nancy Drew, that intrepid young detective who is compelled to solve every crime. Brought to life in a 2007 movie, Nancy Drew has shown teens and tweens a "new sincerity" when it comes to fashion, and it's a look that's timeless. Whether you pick up clues from the movie or the many books penned by Carolyn Keene, you'll love Nancy's style. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Check out the illustrations in the books and on the covers and see how Nancy's look has evolved. In the 1930s-era "Secret of the Old Clock", she was shown with a bob hairstyle, a flared skirt, jacket and cloche hat. The 1950s saw the introduction of matching accessories, while the 1970s saw poor Nancy in polyester pantsuits.

2. View the 2007 movie "Nancy Drew," and see how fashion designer Jeffrey Kurland updated Nancy Drew for the times. Actress Emma Roberts portrays the daring sleuth, and we see her still solving crimes in these current times, but now decked in a preppy look with a short peacoat, Peter Pan-collared blouses, capri pants, knee socks and the ever-present plaid accessories.

3. Take a cue from Nancy's statement, "I like old-fashioned things." If it's vintage, tailored and in good condition, it's Nancy Drew style. She would never choose anything too constrictive, just in case she has to leap over a wall to chase after a burglary suspect. Nancy Drew is always fashionable, but always practical as well.

4. Don't forget that Nancy Drew always puts her best foot forward. Nancy would never wear tottery heels just in case she had to suddenly climb down a fire escape. She generally would wear flats, low heels or moccasins when reviewing the evidence in her bedroom.

5. Remember that Nancy Drew always dresses in good taste. If it's tight or tawdry, it doesn't belong in Nancy's closet. With that said, Nancy is always confident of her appearance and knows impress the boys (her poor beau Ned Nickerson is constantly strung along).
