Healthy Fantasy Party Foods For Kids

Devilled eggs made with low-calorie ingredients are a healthy snack for a party.

Fantasy-themed party foods for kids are easy to create with colored sugar ingredients, such as frosting and candy. However, all that food coloring and sugar is unhealthy for the body and mind. In addition to making kids feel hyperactive and distracted, unhealthy snacks contribute to issues from tooth decay to childhood obesity. If you're willing to put forth the effort, creativity and wholesome ingredients are all you need to create fantasy-themed refreshments that are both tasty and healthy. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Deviled Cyclops Eyes

Provide party guests with a healthy protein snack that gives an imaginative twist to deviled eggs. The simple recipe consists of a hard-boiled egg half filled with a mixture of yolk and light ranch salad dressing. A small slice of carrot on top of the filling provides a pupil accent to make each egg look like an eye.

Goblin Fingers

Turn sticks of low-fat string cheese into ghoulish goblin fingers to give a fantasy-theme to your party refreshments. The fingers consist of a string cheese stick with lines carved across the middle to form a knuckle. An almond slice secured to the end of the cheese with a dab of strawberry yogurt forms a pale fingernail for the ghostly white "finger."

Peanut Butter Wizard Hats

Use wizard hat-shaped cookie cutters to make small finger sandwiches for a kid's fantasy party. Hat-shaped wheat bread sandwiches filled with peanut butter and berry jam provides a filling base for the snack. A thin line of jam on the top slice, across the brim area, accentuates the hat's shape.

Fruity Butterflies

Mix apples, cantaloupe and mini pretzel sticks to create a healthy party snack with a butterfly shape. Three melon balls speared with a toothpick form the body for each butterfly. One apple slice placed with the point upward forms the upper wing on each side of the body and one apple slice pointing downward forms the lower wing. Two mini pretzel sticks sticking up from the top melon ball provide the appearance of antennas.

Magic Wand Pretzels

Decorate the tips of whole-wheat pretzel sticks with cream cheese and granulated sugar to create a sweet, yet healthy, treat that looks like a magic wand. Each wand consists of a large pretzel stick with the tip covered with cream cheese. A light dusting of granulated sugar over the cream cheese provides sparkle to give the wand a "magical" appearance.

Sword-Shaped Cookies

Low-sugar oatmeal, raisin, cinnamon and brown sugar cookies not only provide a healthy sweet for party guests, they're relatively easy to mold into different shapes. A thin triangle cookie with a horizontal bar at the bottom and a vertical rectangle sticking out forms a basic blade handle shape.
